JUNE 2016 :: DANIELLE ELISE
:: When did you start at CrossFit Matters and how did you learn about CrossFit? I started around October or November 2013. I was looking for a gym that was open late near my apartment and Google led me to CrossFit Matters.
:: What is your CrossFit theme song? I can never remember song names, but I tend to feel the most motivated by Jim’s and Rob’s mixes.
:: What are the rewards/benefits of CrossFit training for you? 1 – Stress reduction, 2 – Improved fitness, 3 – Improved energy and mood
:: What is your favorite movement/WOD and what challenges you?
I enjoy back squats the most. I am probably most challenged by running and the purely overhead movements.
:: How and why does CrossFit matter in your life? I think the initial, and still significant, motivating factors for me have been to be “healthy” and “in shape,” not only for myself, but also to be an effective role model / authority figure at work. As I’ve continued, other factors have come up as well: I like the feeling of satisfaction that comes after a workout with heavier exertion. The consistent warmth and positivity of the other people at the gym tends to make me feel better about my efforts in class, as well as with whatever else is going on that day. Repeatedly working through challenging workouts may have helped me adopt a more mature mindset when encountering or working through other problems (i.e. find a safe and effective approach and work through it, instead of delaying, agonizing over it, and half-assing or not trying in anticipation of inadequate full efforts). My self-image has probably shifted to something more positive since starting.
:: What is your guilty non-CrossFit pleasure? Idle internet browsing, television, and chips.
:: What are you looking forward to achieving in 2016? I intend to work toward improved cardiopulmonary capacity, balance, and upper body strength.
:: What is something you would encourage someone considering CrossFit? You are likely to find it quite fun if you have some competitive spirit and/or have a predilection for continued self-improvement. For the vast majority of people, doing something else to “get in shape before starting” is not necessary. Anyone can always be in better shape and it will happen faster here.
:: What is something others may not know about you? I’m moving to Florida about a week from now.
:: What is your most memorable CrossFit experience? The first time I ran a mile without stopping to walk was during one of the holiday workouts.
