CrossFit and CrossFit Matters has been such a blessing to me this past year and a half. It is hard to put into words what CrossFit has done for me not only physically but mentally. Before I found CrossFit Matters, I was a retired D1 collegiate soccer athlete, and really struggling with life after college. Without a coach telling me when to work out, planning my days around practice, and not being around my team 24/7, I lost myself. I fell into a routine that simply was not me… I was lazy, unhappy, and not confident. I was needing to find my “happy” again and CrossFit Matters ended up being exactly that! I did a google search on CrossFit gyms near me and found CrossFit Matters. I sent an email, and started the next week… there was no turning back! I was so nervous and intimidated the first time walking in the gym, but everyone was so friendly and welcomed me with open arms. I now plan my weeks around CrossFit and look forward to getting my butt kicked every single workout! I love being able to workout with people who push me, and encourage me every single day. It has been so cool to see the progress I have made since starting and can’t wait to see what 2016 holds for my CrossFit journey. CrossFit has given me my happiness and confidence back and I am forever grateful for CrossFit Matters.

:: When did you start at CrossFit Matters and how did you learn about CrossFit? – I started at CrossFit Matters in December of 2014, I started seeing CrossFit all over social media and decided to give it a go!

:: What is your CrossFit theme song? – I am not sure if I have a specific theme song. I like listening to rap when I work out. “0 to 100” by Drake is a good one that always gets me going!

:: What are the rewards/benefits of CrossFit training for you? – Gosh there are so many! There are physical benefits, obvi. Since starting CrossFit I have lost/kept off 18lbs and finally seeing, for the first time really ever, abzzzzz… just in time for summer! CrossFit training also gives me that competitive drive that I need. It is so awesome competing next to badass athletes every day who are better/stronger than me, very motivating and humbling!

:: What is your favorite movement/WOD and what challenges you? – My favorite movement/WOD is anything with squat clean, HSPU, box jumps, and sprints. Overhead squats challenge me the most! The day I get through “Nancy” without being on the verge of tears the whole time, will be a day to celebrate! haha

:: How and why does CrossFit matter in your life? – CrossFit matters in my life because it has made me fit, confident, and strong. I also get to surround myself with people who want nothing more than to see me work hard and succeed (inside and outside the gym) and I think that is so important!

:: What is your guilty non-CrossFit pleasure? – Ice cream and vodka

:: What are you looking forward to achieving in 2016? – I am looking forward to my first competition ever with Doug, Kevin, and Becca! I am also looking forward to achieving a ring muscle up someday!

:: What is something you would encourage someone considering CrossFit? – JUST DO IT. It will be uncomfortable doing something that you have never done, but this community is one of a kind and so welcoming! CrossFit will challenge you in ways you never thought you could be challenged, and will reward you in so many more ways!

:: What is something others may not know about you? – I am a professional napper. I can fall asleep anytime and anywhere. I don’t mess with my sleep!

:: What is your most memorable CrossFit experience? – Hands down in the open this year when I achieved my first bar muscle up! A muscle up was something I never thought I’d be able to do. The muscle up was cool, but what was even cooler was everyone there cheering me on and encouraging me…I was all smiles for days!
